A whole day to be thankful to your very first hero, the woman who taught you almost everything you know. You would have crawled to her taken, your first few steps to her, she no doubt still feeds you. She gives you unconditional love and nurturing. All those co curricular activities; basketball, football whatever it was that was her weekend watching and cheering you on day after day, week after week, year after year our mum does not stop, you are who you are today because of her.
There’s a few things that every parent hopes for their children and that is for them to live happy healthy lives, so what’s the best way for them to grow up and live this dream… Be the example.
Some of my favourite training sessions is when my clients kids come along. Kid’s knows how to move naturally, they haven’t sat in front of a desk or driven a car, or learnt bad movement habits so we can learn so much from them. They are learning by experimenting, by exploring, by playing! That’s what Adventure PT is about going back to the fundamentals to re teach you how to use and move your body with most efficiency, by exploring and having fun. The thing I love most about these sessions is the joy they all have working together and the encouragement the kids give to their parents, they are so proud and they want to be just like them.
We can give children those happy healthy lives by not sending them to the couch to watch Tv but send them to play, or better yet play with them!
By playing or training with your children no matter what age, you will form a bond of respect and friendship. If they have fitness goals help them achieve them, this doesn’t mean you have to be the coach and yell at them but move with them. One of my clients has kids that want to do cross country so she came to me with goal to run, and now they can run together, motivate each other. Not only has exercising together helped their fitness but it’s also helped their communication with each other. You don’t need to buy your kids a six pack or new clothes for them to speak to you, just have an interest in what they’re passions are.
When I was growing up my mum loved walks, she would say oh we’re just going for a half an hour walk that would turn into 2hours, we called them “mummy’s walks.” No doubt I would whinge but they’re some of my favourite times, exploring new places you see things so much clearer when you take your time to walk and look around to appreciate where you are. That’s what my job is now to apply movement in nature in incredible locations around the Peninsula. It’s funny how these small things as a kid so clearly shape the adult you become.
Be thankful, be active, be healthy happy and tell your mum, tell your son, your daughter you love them and then go get sweaty. Because a family that play’s. laughs, and that sweats together well that’s a family that stays together.
